3 men and a Flat Tire

April 25, 2012

Dear Men,
One of these things is not like the other:
So, last night I got a flat tire with handy husband out of town.

Ironically, I was on my way home from Enrichment.  As I left the church parking lot I thought the car was driving kind of funny.  It felt like the parking break was on so I glanced at it to check.  Nope.  I continued to drive while jamming to the Christian station like I usually do.  I had the volume turned up nice and loud, but I kept hearing a weird sound coming from the back seat.  I wondered what the kids had rolling around back there so I turned the volume down to hear better.  Hmm, strange.  And then it hit me: I had a flat tire!  Bleep!  I was no longer feeling enriched.

I got out of the car to look at the damage and thought about changing it myself, but when three drunk guys passed me in about 5 minutes, I thought better of it.

Being an irresponsible person I didn't have any minutes left on my phone because I had already used them for the month.  Not a good idea when I'm temporarily a single mom.  Luckily, I could still text so I texted my dad and my brothers hoping someone would be able to come and save me.

Within minutes Shawn and Bryce both showed up, both with their head lamps on.  Hallelujah!   They went to work and had me on the road in no time.

The next day I was telling Grandma and Grandpa Livvy about my great night and they wanted to take a look at the damage.  Grandpa decided I needed two new tires and that we would go purchase them ASAP.  I didn't even know Atticus was paying attention when he suddenly said, "Mama I'll pay for your tires."  I responsed that that was very nice of him but I asked what money he would use.  He replied, "My piggy bank money so you don't have to waste your own."  What a sweetie!

The following day Grandpa, Atticus and I set out to get new tires and Grandpa insisted on paying for them.  Oh, how I love that generous man!  Atticus tried to give the mechanic his own contribution of $1 and he was devastated when the man paid him no mind.

I'm blessed with some incredibly great men in my life.

Thank you!  Meshan

Lost

January 21, 2012

Dear Sisters,
Since snowshoeing was such a success on New Years Eve, we decided to have a girls day and go again.  This time it was Kaitlin, Genie, and myself.  This time there was lots more snow, it was colder, and it was snowing the entire time on us.  We planned on having a picnic at the top, but since it was snowing so much we decided we should head back before visibility got too bad.

We thought it would be fun to take a path through the trees again, instead of taking the road down.

The only problem with that was that the path wasn't as well marked because of all the fresh snow.  I was leading the way and I, um... kind of got us lost.  I realized we were headed the wrong way and told the girls we should back track to see where we had made a wrong turn.  One of us (ahem, Kaitlin) was convinced we were on the right path and that we would meet up with the road eventually.

We continued, but once we saw this cow I was pretty sure we were following a cattle trail and that we were going the opposite direction we wanted to be.  Kaitlin was still sure we were going the right way because she had been silently praying for help.  I had been silently praying too and I'm sure Genie was just praying that we could be done already.  She was exhausted and not used to such "outdoorsy" stuff.  Kaitlin suggested we say a prayer together so we knelt down and did so.

I did a quick guestimate of where we should be and I figured we had been lost for almost two hours and that we should have met up with the road and hour ago.  Kaitlin wanted to press forward and I told her I would give her ten more minutes and if we didn't find the road we were turning around.  By now the snow was coming down faster and harder.  We were worried and called our husbands to tell them the situation in case they had to come rescue us.

We (eventually) turned around, went all the way back up the trail to the top of the mountain, and came down on the road.  Not as scenic, but a safe bet.  We burned a bazillion calories and made it home hours after we planned.  I was so grateful we were able to get back on track though.  I'm also grateful for the bonding time with my two sistas.  I love you girls!

Pinterest

Dear Friends,
I'm addicted.  To a little corner of the web called, Pinterest.

It's a place where I can keep all the great DIY ideas together that I'm never going to take the time to do.

A place to drool over all the outfits I'll never have the money to buy.

A place to dream about a home that will most likely remain just that, a dream.

A place to feel like a slacker mom and get lots of crafty ideas from clever moms.

Sounds a bit depressing, right?  I love it though.  Try it, you might like it too.  Click HERE to be invited.

Girls Camp Teaser

Dear Cindy,
Girls Camp was AH-MAZE-ZA-ZA-ZING!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you for flying out here to take care of my kids for a week while I went playing in the mountains with the Young Women from church!  I really wanted to go, but didn't know how it would be possible with four little ones and a husband out of commission because of intense Pharmacy studying.  Alas, you came to my rescue!

You're the best mother-in-law in the world!!

You're one of the most generous people I know when it comes to giving of your time.  You're always willing to watch the grandkids and you adore them.  The kids had a blast spending a week with you and they loved all the fun craft projects you did with them.  More on my experiences at Girls Camp later, but for now I'm swamped with my TO DO list.  Here's a little teaser as to the fun I had:

Thanks again, Meshan

I need you.

Dear Friends,
     I need your honest opinion.

Okay.  So, I bought this crocheted yarn piece at a Thriftstore the other day because when I saw it I thought, "Oooh... nice!  The colors will match the girls room PERFECTLY!  Retro bright yarn... I love it!"  So I bought it for $2.00 and brought it home.  When my husband saw it he said, "Oooh... what's that thing?!"
And I responded, "It's for the girls room, don't you just love it?"
Husband looks at me, raises his eyebrows and says, "Are you serious?"
With great pride I say, "Yeah!  I found this beauty at the Thriftstore.  Isn't it great?!"
Husband laughs and says,"Not only do I not like it, I hate it."
I gasp and say, "Really?! You hate it?  Wow, not only do I like it, I LOVE it!"
And then he goes on to tell me all the reasons why he detests it. And all the while I am fighting back tears.  Okay, not really.  But seriously, is it that bad?
