A drive in the mountains

May 04, 2013

Dear love,
What a lovely night.  You took me on a drive into the mountains and the air was thick with the promise of summer.

We came to a stop in the road, but we just weren't ready to turn around and head home quite yet.  You dug a trench with your trusty shovel that came equipped on the Ural and we were able to barely squeeze under the gate so that we could continue on the road.

The views were incredible and we were enjoying ourselves immensely, but the sun was quickly setting  so we had to make our way back.

Once we got to the gate again, we couldn't even fit under it with the trench dug.  We ended up having to take the mirrors off!  Haha, good thing I have such a handy hunk of a husband!

What a perfect night with my love.

Santa Fe Opera

July 20, 2012

Dear Love,
We went on a date last night.  To the Santa Fe Opera.  It was free and AMAZING!  The seats we had would have cost us about oh, I don't know, $300!!!   That's right, score of the year.

I got invited to play BUNCO with some ladies from church and while I was there I met a girl (Emilee) who works at the Santa Fe Opera.  She's the head costume gal.  Well, we got to talking about the Opera and how I wanted to go sometime... yada, yada, yada... and before I knew what was happening she offered me two free tickets for the following night.  I sent you a text:

Me: Do you want to go to the Opera tomorrow?
You: Yes Please.
Me: It would be from 8:30 to midnight.
You: That is a damn long song.  We couldn't find a babysitter for that.  Unless...

Unless what?  I work my magic?  Done.

The Santa Fe Opera sits on top of a hill with this incredible view:

Each opera starts around 8:00pm so that you get to see the sunset.  It's an outdoor theatre and the weather was perfect.  The opera we saw is called Maometto and it's in Italian, but in front of each seat is a little screen with English subtitles.  I loved being able to follow the story.  The scenery, costumes, and singing were all wonderful.

I'm pumped that I already get to check off something from my, "Must Do While in Santa Fe" list.

Thanks for the lovely date,
Me

80's Bday Vday Party

February 10, 2011

Dear Love,

Tonight we went to an 80's themed Valentine's Day/ Birthday Party for our friend Reann.  I went to the Thriftstore two different times to try and find outfits and the day of the party I was getting a little worried because I wasn't having any success finding stuff for you.  And then I saw it, the "High Five a Tiger" shirt.  Perfect.  Everytime I see it it makes me laugh.

We went to the party with Ryan and Yolanda and I'm so glad we did.  I had an absolute blast.  The party was killer.  You know how much I love to bust a move and dress-up like a freak.  It reminded me of High School.  It was totally awesome dude.

I'm not sure why we posed "prom style" for this photo, i guess we're just cool like that.

We both hate this picture, but it's good for making other people feel good about themselves.  Ha.

The photobooth pictures were taken by Reann's sister, Aslyn.

Keep the freak flag flyin,

Snowshoeing,

December 31, 2011

Dear Love,

We went snowshoeing to Potatoe Lake with my family today.  It was a workout, but so much fun.  Your rockstar mom babysat for us.  It was great to have some adult fun and it was a fabulous way to end the year.

Being in the mountains with you makes me happy.

The Best Day Ever

May 20, 2011
Dear love,
You know how when Clara's having a good day she enthusiastically squeals, "This is the best day EVER!"?  Well, that's how I felt about today.

I had planned on running errands this morning while you were out mountain biking.  Right before you left you asked if I wanted to go with you.  Umm ...a bike ride with my husband whom I never see?  Let's hit the road baby!  I quickly procured a babysitter and we were off.

Let me start off this recap by saying the last time I went Mountain Biking was in High School and I ended up flying over the front handlebars and landing on my face.  The last time I exercised was, well, I guess a year ago when I ran a half marathon.

You told me we were going on a trail for beginners and that it was only four miles long.  Either you were lying or severely misinformed. :)

Even though the start of the trail was nice and easy my body wasn't used to such physical exertion and the desert had no sympathy.

After awhile I got into it and actually started to enjoy myself... until we came to Death Mountain.  For the life of me I couldn't figure out my gears and I ended up walking a lot little.

I thought I was going to die going up the mountain and my body was mad at myself and you.  I kept having to give myself pep talks,  "Come on, you can do it!", "Just a little further.",  "That's right you're the bomb!", "You've given natural child birth to four children for crying out loud!", "Go! Just pump your legs!", "Don't be such a wimp!"...

The view at the top was so worth it.  I felt amazing.  That is, until we went down the hill.  I thought I was going to die for a whole different reason.  There were some seriously slick rocks and nasty spots to overcome.  The pep talks were more along the lines of, "Whoa nelly, slow down.", "Just take it easy, this isn't a race.", "Yes, your husband is way ahead, but at least you're alive.", "You got this girl!"

We took a wrong turn at one point and ended up going through the wash.  You told me we needed to hurry because it was almost time to get the kids.  Yep, okay, Roger that... I'll hurry through the weeds, boulders and gravel while making my own trail.  Ugh!  I was so done with mountain biking by then.

Once we made it to the car and I realized I was alive I felt great!  I did it and (gasp) I even liked it!  How is that possible?  I have no idea but I'm ready to do it again.

Our fabulous day was far from over.  Prior to the bike ride we had already planned on going out for a celebration dinner.  We picked up the kids and had just enough time to get ready before the babysitter came over.

We went to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in honor of you finishing your second year of Pharmacy school.  Woot, woot!  I decided to get you a gift in celebration and you were very surprised to open the indestructable sports camera you had had your eye on for awhile.  A very expensive dinner was followed by the movie, "Thor" at the cheap theater.

Today felt like the good ol' days.  You know, back in Monterey when we spent our free time going from one fun activity to the next and never tiring of each other's company.  Aaah, it was wonderful.  Thanks babe, I needed that.

My Dream Home

May 19, 2011

Dear Love,
Before I remind you of the home you promised to buy me I want to tell you about the previous dream homes that led up to it.

DREAM HOME #1- Albuquerque, NM
Discovered:  While visiting the home of my mom's best friend.  Britt and I took mock senior pictures there.  I can not disclose at this time how many mock senior pictures I've taken nor with how many different friends.  It's shameful how (un)cool I am.
Likes: Spanish style, adobe fireplace, open ceilings, exposed rafters, five bedrooms, adobe walls
Dislikes:  Downtown ABQ, enough said.
* When senior pics. found insert here*

DREAM HOME #2- Suburb of Boston
Discovered:  While on Intense Community Service helping to rebuild a church.  Kristin, Serena and Cassie were my roommates.  The house was four stories, but we had only seen two so while our host family was away we ascended the staircase and snooped around to see the rest of the house.  Naughty.
Likes:  wood floors, stained glass windows, lighting, amazing staircase, cool rugs, large windows, arbor, I heart the East and BOSTON!
Dislikes: Husband has no desire to live East of NM.

DREAM HOME #3- a little town in Sweden
Discovered:  While in UWP.  This was my first host family outside the US.  While I was staying there Trey told me he joined the Army and we made plans to wed.
Likes:  close to the sea, attic room, my first experience with in-floor heat, open space, lots of windows, hard wood floors
Dislikes:  Sweden is a bit far

DREAM HOME #4- Outside Durango, CO.
Discovered:  While at the wedding reception of my mom's marriage to Bob.
Likes: straw bail home, brick floors, off the grid, solar panels, courtyard, lots of land, adobe walls, radiant heat
Dislikes: I'm much more inclined to warm weather.

DREAM HOME #5- Diamond Valley, UT.
Discovered:  While on a visit to see Danika.  The house belongs to her sister, who is also my sister-in-law's mother.  Got it?
Likes:  Every. Single. Thing.
Dislikes:  Not for sale.  If it were it would be out of my price range.

DREAM HOME #6: Farmington, NM
Discovered:  While visiting the in-laws.  They now own this home.
Likes:  There's so much to love and so much to be done to that big beautiful structure that I often think about it.  Often as in, every time I post a picture to Pinterest I have this home in my mind as I do so.  I've already decorated the entire thing in my dreams.  Is that normal?  I don't think that's normal.
Dislikes:  It's not for sale and I don't even know where we'll end up.  Could be Timbuktu.

DREAM HOME #7:  Henderson, NV
Discovered:  The fifth and most current dream house is the one my love took me to on a date the other night.  You said you were taking me somewhere that was going to blow my mind.  First of all, I love that you know me so well.  You could have just taken me to a movie (which would have been fine), but instead you took me to an amazing open house followed by a most delicious dinner.  Second, I love that you told me to bring my camera because you knew I would want pictures.

Indoor/Outdoor living, so... wonderful... inspiring... and refreshing.

Are you kidding me?!!  An outdoor shower?!  The indoor one was 20x more fancy, but I'd take this one anyday.

Outdoor bed,  oh my.

I've died and gone to hot tub heaven.

Want a burger?  Just have a seat at the pool's bar and my husband will grill you one right up.

Relaxation/meditation room?  Yes, please.

How did you know I wanted a pallet style bed?!

Love this view from the Master Bedroom instead of looking at a TV.

Craft/ Laundry room with a TV.  I don't even watch TV anymore, but I might start back up.

Enough Solar Panels to be off the grid!!

Come, sit by the fire in my outdoor living room and watch my flat screen TV.

Or maybe you prefer this outdoor room with a waterfall and flat screen TV.

No?  Okay, let's just go to the Media Room.  Seriously?  Why so many televisions?!  There was one in nearly every room!

I loved all the courtyards, water features and xeriscaping.

Farewell!  I'll never see you again my 3.5 million dollar dream!

Dislikes:  the price, too many TV's, not enough color, a little too contemporary
Disclaimer:  If someone wanted to give me this house I would take it in a heartbeat.
